Barry Drake
Superfast Gorden set the standard in the Kingdom on Friday night as the semi-finals of the 2023 Eric Browne Memorial Kingdom Derby took centre stage.
Trained by Pat Buckley for owners Eamon Doyle and Mart Hatton, Superfast Gorden (pic below right with James Corden) was recording back-to-back wins in superb style. It was a stunning front running winning performance from the exciting December puppy. After producing a great start, the 10-3 shot slipped around in front and from there, it was always going to take something special to reel him in.
Ballymac Marino turned a close second, but the one up front was showing huge speed throughout. A wonderful 28.08 winning run, with just a length back to Ballymac Marino in second place. Seven lengths back to Bobsleigh Syd back in third. Track record holder and short price favourite Daleroad Duke lost all chance after stumbling from traps.
A GREAT NIGHT FOR TEAM BUCKLEY
It was a great night all round for team Buckley, Road Exile ran out a 14-1 winner of the opening semi final.
Just making the corner in front, the impressive winner displayed massive back straight pace and in truth, the outcome was never in any doubt. Keeping on well at the head of affairs, Road Exile (pic below left with James Corden) proved two and a half lengths too strong for Ballymac Walt. De Lahdedah didn't enjoy the clearest of runs throughout and he was half a length behind the runner up in third.
