The opening round of the TIME Greyhound Nutrition Cork Cup got off a flying start last weekend, and tomorrow night's second round is certain to produce more top-class performances.
Trained by Owen McKenna for owners the Green Brigade Syndicate Clonnoch Cliste caught my eye in defeat last time out, and she should be ready to strike in this. A three-length second to Queen Lulu in the opening round, she's better drawn this time around, and with a decent start, she should be hard to beat.
In the second heat, a narrow vote goes to the Dean Harpur-trained Ballycowen Archy. He ran well in the Laurels last year, and he has delivered two fine performances in recent weeks. When you consider he didn't break as well as possible last time out, I thought it was a big run in defeat. He looks to be coming to top form at the right time, and he's selected to bounce out in front and make all the running in this.
The likes of Made To Measure, trained by Patrick Norris and Canavour Bucko, for trainer Pat O'Connell, are others that should be right in the mix.
In the third and final heat, Da Tapper Flynn, who was just touched off last week, can bounce back to winning ways for trainer Pat Kiely and owners the Golden Spoon Syndicate. A head second to Mead To Measure last week, the makeup of this contest should suit, and if the gaps open at the right time, the strong running finisher should be well on top in the closing stages.
Donishall Sam, trained by Graham Holland for owner Michael Edward Young, is the pick of the other races, and the pacey selection should strike in the fourth. A recent 28.57 winner around Shelbourne Park, he ran another big race when second behind Jade One, who re-opposes last time out. A better draw in this that should be enough to see him bounce back to winning ways.
