A GOODBYE TO TUESDAY RACING AT SHELBOURNE

Ian Fortune

Shelbourne Park last night said goodbye to Tuesday night action with racing set to commence on Thursdays instead.

From next week, the schedule at the famous Ringsend venue will switch to Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Of course, as always, Shelbourne Park will revert to just two nights racing in January and February, opening their doors on a Friday and Saturday before the return of a full schedule from the beginning of March.

From March 1st, the three race nights at Shelbourne Park will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There are arguments for and against the switch from Tuesday to Thursday but it does seem likely the venue will be a more attractive night out on a Thursday. It also coincides with payday for many and hopefully, the new night will be well-supported going forward.

For the record, the final Tuesday night race at Shelbourne Park went to Andrew Murray’s Gortkelly Mona, who gave the field the slip on the bend before going on to score by six and a half lengths in a useful 30.11 for the 550yd trp.
