The promising Lemon Tossy set the standard in the semi-finals of the Kilkenny Track A3 525 on Friday evening despite having to come from well of the pace in his heat.

Beaming Numen had to overcome a bit of traffic to win the opening heat but the headlines went to Lemon Tossy.

Tom Lennon’s young son of Over Limit and Lemon Fabia was only fifth into the turn behind the pace-setters Hollyhill Davy and Allowdale Shelly but when the gaps arrived, Lemon Tossy had the pace and determination to take advantage.

Moving through the gears down the back straight, Lemon Tossy moved fourth as they approached the third turn. With the front-runners starting to show signs of fatigue, both Warofattrition and Lemon Tossy closed rapidly around the third and fourth bends.

Warofattrition actually struck the front of the final turn but he left room up his inner and the advancing Lemon Tossy didn’t need a second invitation. Powering up the inside of the track, Lemon Tossy struck the front on the run in to go on and beat Warofattrition by neck in 29.37. Hollyhill Davy was just a half length adrift in third.

Things were a bit more straightforward for Beaming Numen in the opening heat.

Chris Conolly and Corona Ryan’s son of Ballymac Best and Droopys Mazda missed the start in the stripes but flew up the outside of the track to challenge the fast-starting Storys Girl.

Taking a bump, Beaming Numen had to settle for second spot into the back straight but h charged to the front at halfway. Big finisher Fortunate Duo emerged s his main threat in the second half of the contest but the Willie Connolly trained Beaming Numen went on to score by three parts of a length in 29.45. Lemon Elsa chased the pair into the final, a further two and a half lengths adrift.
