There were some fine displays at Newbridge on Friday night but the feature saw Droopy Sonic produce an incredible finish to capture the feature, the final of the Newbridge Track Supporters Club A3/A4.
The Robert Gleeson trained son of Tullymurry Act and Droopys Justine was the 5-4 favourite ahead of the off but his supporters could have been forgiven for giving up as the greyhounds entered the back straight.
In fact, it wasn’t until the final yards that his fans could get into full voice. Owned by the Sonic Ravers Syndicate, the October whelp was off the pace into the turn and found himself even further behind after taking a bump.
He remained well off the pace into the third turn but then began to move through the gears. Still fifth and lengths off the pace as they turned for home, he turned on the afterburners on the run in. Incredibly, he flew up the outside of the track to not only win but to do so quite comfortably, hitting the line a length and a half clear of Hawkfield Gizmo in 28.81. Keep an eye out for Droops Sonic in the future, particularly when he is stepped up in trip.
