32 IRISH AMONGST 179-STRONG ENGLISH DERBY ENTRY

The Star Sports English Greyhound Derby will commence at Towcester next Thursday, May 8th and there will be 32 Irish trained runners in the opening round draw. A total of 179 entries were confirmed for the classic yesterday evening.
The first-round draw will take place at Towcester on Friday, ahead of the opening round which will be run over three nights Thursday May 8th, Friday May 9th and Saturday May 10th .
A total of seven Irish trainers will take their chance in the classic. Liam Dowling is bidding to follow up on last year’s wonderful success with De Lahdedah. The defending champion is amongst a five-strong team from team Ballymac.
Graham Holland is seeking a third English Derby success after the victories of Romeo Magico and Gaytime Nemo in 2022 and 2023 and has a team of nine, headed by Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby champion Bockos Diamond.
Another seeking a third English Derby success is Paul Hennessy. He won in 2016 with Jaytee Jet in 2016 and Priceless Blake in 2019. He has seven entries, including last year’s runner-up Boylesports Bob.
Brendan Matthews, Peter Cronin and David Byrne have two runners each completing the 32-strong Irish contingent. Each of the Irish trained runners are listed below.
